I want to know about legal costs

Legal costs are high, and a legitimate concern of anyone seeking legal advice.

If you are buying or selling property, or wanting to make or prove a will, we will usually be able to give you a fixed price for the work. In other cases, this will not be possible. For example, the costs of litigation are notoriously high and difficult to predict. Where we are unable or unwilling to fix the cost, we will give you an estimate and keep you advised if that estimate must be revised. We must give you notice in writing explaining how we calculate legal fees and your rights tor review our charges.

You have significant rights to review legal costs. At your request an officer of the Supreme Court will review a legal bill. Whist there are costs and risks associated with this process, it gives you the opportunity for redress where you have been overcharged.
